Gerald Miller

Gerald Miller, age 84, of Caro, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Amazing Love Adult Foster Care Home in Caro. He was born on July 16, 1925 in Elkton to the late Ervin and Iva (Kress) Miller.

He was a 1944 graduate of Bad Axe High School, and attended County Normal, graduating in 1948. He taught at Batie School in Huron County for five years before entering the service. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict. Gerald Miller was united in marriage with the former Ruth Elaine Dingman on August 6, 1955 and they had celebrated 57 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2008. When he returned from the service, they moved to Mt. Pleasant where he completed his BS degree in 1960. He taught in Mt. Pleasant and later five years in Caro. He was named principal of Schall School where he served 12 years before being named coordinating principal serving in that capacity for three years. He was a former member of M.E.A. and a former president of C.E.A. He also was a member of the National Association of School Principals, Middle School Principals and Phi Delta Kappa. He was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, the Theron W. Atwood Sr. American Legion Post 7 in Caro, and Caro V.F.W. Post #4164.

He is survived by three children and their spouses, Jeanie and Dan Bills of Caro, Nan and Doug Ewald of Laingsburg, Beth and Doug Willis of Port Austin; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Julian and Jordan Bills, all of Caro, Gordy and Ellie Ewald of Laingsburg, Chad (Amy) Willis of Florida, Ashley Willis and her fiancé Luke Stilson of Filion; three great-grandchildren, Logan Lawrie of Saginaw, Luke Willis of Florida and Jade Stilson of Filion; one niece and two nephews; and his special friends and caregivers at Amazing Love AFC Home.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Melba Sprunger.

The funeral service will be held at the Caro United Methodist Church on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.

Burial with military honors will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the Caro United Methodist Church.
