Verna R. Williamson
Verna Ruth Williamson, age 86, of Crimora, Virginia passed into the presence of God on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fisherville, Virginia.
She was born on July 25, 1923 in Caro, the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Rickwalt. Verna married Vernon Lyle Dennis in 1941 and gave birth to seven children. After Vernon was electrocuted while doing construction work in 1954, she married Ralph Williamson. Ralph came into the family with five children after his wife Maureen was killed in an automobile accident. Their union produced three more children and Verna raised the fifteen children as one family.
The family extends their sincerest gratitude to Verna’s extended families at Wayside Baptist Church of Crimora, Virginia; Bethany United Methodist Church of Weyers Cave, Virginia, and Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fisherville, Virginia.
She is survived by fourteen children, Ruth Ann (Phillip) Mikesell of Grottoes, Virginia, Raymond (Shirley) Dennis of Caro, Karen (David Irving) Dennis of Lemon Grove, California, Patrick (Marion) Williamson of Big Rapids, Dwain (Terese Paletta) Dennis of Lake Odessa, Anthony (Cindy) Williamson of Lumberton, Texas, Kevin (Ginny) Williamson of Smithfield, Virginia, Shelia (Willie Ray) Lawson of Corryton, Tennessee, Colleen Sue Clark of Virginia, Shirley (Mark) Leslie of Melbourne, Florida, Vernon (Mary) Dennis of King William, Virginia, Debra Williamson of Waynesboro, Virginia, Randy Williamson of Grottoes, Virginia, Aretha Jo Williamson of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; 28 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Bernard) Taylor of Yermo, California; one brother, Albert (Christina) Rickwalt of Newberry Springs, California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon L. Dennis; her second husband, Ralph G. Williamson; a son, James C. Dennis; her mother and father, Albert and Mary Rickwalt; two sisters, Alice Rickwalt and Martha Johnson; one brother, Willard Rickwalt; one son-in-law, Ronnie Clark, one granddaughter, Gail Ann Williamson; and one grandson, Travis Williamson.
The funeral service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Cameron Steele, St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating.
Burial will be at East Dayton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m.
